WILLIAM HATTON – PRIVATE 31050

William was born in Nether Alderley in around 1894. His parents were Charles and Ellen Hatton.

In 1901, when he was 7 years old he was living on Welsh Row, Nether Alderley but by 1911 he and his family had moved to Butts Farm on Artists Lane. William is listed on the census as working on his father’s farm.

He enlisted in Chester on the 23 April 1916 into the 2nd Btn. South Lancashire Regiment and spent the first 4 months of military service on home soil. He was then drafted on the 30th August 1916 with the British Expeditionary Force to France and was killed in action on 10th April 1918 aged 24.

William is in no known resitnh place but commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial, Hainaut, Belgium
